I'm an American and do think the Bongs are probably better at rock music than we are. I saw Tesseract open a concert recently and the singer (who also looked the part of a British rock singer) was doing all the moves. I dunno they seem very at ease with "theatrical" performance and poetry and melody but combined with a rough and Rust Belt layer of British society or shaped by that.

Bongs are (or at least were) good at goth too, but yeah, goth is actually comfortable being dead, or being at ease with its own undeadness. In essence it's an internal or inward-facing artistic tradition in Western culture.
