modo is garbage because the foundry is garbage, also that software is basically dead now since they stopped supporting it because maya unfortunately has every company locked into their stuff, probably because they also have a billion plugins and stuff going for it though i want blender to kill it asap
dw about substance you wouldn't get a high paying job using that either and i think it's doomed because adobe took over it and i want adobe to die, the only reason why substance will be strong for now is because they have a massive library of scans they can use for their ai tools as of yet, so far it's not that bad because it kinda means you can use the suite and get all the softwares and stuff but it's still annoying because it means no support for linux
you can still try to pursue environment work AND adopt scripting work by making modular modelling tools for buildings or forestry generations and such that everyone seems to be doing thesedays. rigging is good too here is some material for you to get into it:

instead of anime rigs if you want to go crazy you can start by modelling animals instead and rigging things based on the muscular anatomy of the animal and applying the skin and then grooming, those typically tends to get attention
