They do, and kinda should when used in creative ways like I mentioned, to emphasize speech, a moment or the character itself or whatever. But when you purely go by what it needs to do, be readable, it's not thaaaaaaaaat dissimilar to a book. Then again, I'm just a random beggar talking out of his ass so who knows.
