In PokeSpe's ORAS arc, neither suit is used for anything besides going to space. Back during the RS arc (4 years prior to the ORAS arc), Ruby and Sapphire didn't use fancy scuba diving gear to reach the Cave of Origin at the bottom of the sea. Instead they used the ancient power of Sapphire's Relicanth to magically dive without drowning. Relicanth here was given lore about being so old, being a coelacanth fossil, it's become magical enough to bring humans to the bottom of the sea. It also doesn't have a lot of places on its body to hold onto, which forces Ruby and Sapphire to clutch it while holding hands kek (which was also plot relevant as they'd just finally stopped arguing)

In PokeSpe at least, Team Aqua's (ORAS) Shelly and Team Magma's (ORAS) Tabitha were former Devon Corp scientists (very bright ones too) and also rivals. But they hated Mr. Stone so they quit Devon for a life of crime with Team Aqua and Magma respectively. But only now during the ORAS arc (as in just the Delta Episode part), where everyone must work together to stop the meteor (a common enemy thing, a similar theme showed up at the end of the RS arc too), Shelly and Tabitha finally put aside their rivalry to collab and revamp the Aqua/Magma suits for space travel.
