Fuck now I'm all in my feels about El Paso. I loved living there but I have no reason to go back. No work in my field (pay there sucks anyways), all my friends moved, no real family there anymore...
It really was the people and the infrastructure/City layout that made it so amazing.
It's not a place where you visit to see a monument or go to some massive amusement park or see some world famous site.
When you first get there, you are misreable and think WTF is there here and where did my life go wrong.
>But then you make friends.
>those friends check up on you everyday and ask you to check out stuff
>You walk around and explore
>You see strange hole in the wall stuff you never would see anywhere else
>You try food and build a habit of weekend breakfasts at your favorite dive joint
>You see the mountains everywhere and never get lost cause you have a strong visual reference point
>You decide to hike the mountains and find crazy cool nature
>on the 4th of july, you see fireworks going off for miles because of the elevation
>In the summer even when there isn't rain you see lightning going off for miles every night.
>You start getting absorbed into the community events like parades and free concerts at speaking rock
>You meet more people, make more friends
>You have groups you belong to now, and they really care about you. Not just fair weather bullshit.
>You are day trip distance from vegas, Phoenix, and a bunch of ski slopes and hot springs in NM
>You grow to love the cheesy local commercials
>You grow to love seeing "Read yoir bible" written on the side of the Juarez side of the Franklin Mountains
>You love seeing the lone star on the El Paso side.
>You take time to enjoy sunsets
>A get together only needs a grill, meat, and a few cases of beer.
>You find more unique things everyday, explore more stuff, find odd sculptures.
>You feel safe. You feel loved.
>it's no at WORLD CLASS Metropolitan city, but little things everyday make you smile and enjoy life.
