Oh boy. So remember in OG how Tifa went into Cloud's mind and stitched his memory back together by sifting through his real and imagined experiences. Well SE decided that not only are they going to call more attention to that. They're going to make it as confusing and convoluted as possible.

So the Dreams Worlds are kind of like soap bubble pocket dimensions within the Lifestream. Anytime someone defies the will of the Planet, a new soap bubble is created where these noncanon events can play out before the bubble pops and the world fades away. And the dead get to walk around these dream worlds working out their remaining issues until they finally dissolve into the Lifestream.

Now why is this stupid besides just being confusing? Well Remake fans will insist that this is NOT multiverse. The same way Cloud's brain dimension doesn't actually exist, the Dream Worlds don't either. Except that on TWO different occasions Cloud has been able to pull items from the Dream Worlds to the real world. Also Sephiroth's goal of stealing the Lifestream is paired with wanting to join all the disparate Dream Worlds under his rule. Because if he can dictate the Lifestream then he can remove death as a concept. And when he does it in the Final Battle he accidentally includes the Dream Worlds where Zack and Aerith existed in so they can fight him after their deaths. But no really guys, there is no multiverse, trust me bro.
