It doesn't just feel long, that part of the story is unironically the longest stretch of the game by far. Last Resort and Humphrey combined are long but are still not as long as Sweetheart's Castle, and it's not even close if you add Pyrefly Forest to the Sweetheart section.

I completely agree with you, Basil is hands down the most braindead character in the game, and his actions however well intentioned, are still unforgivable. I still think Sunny deserves some flack though since he had plenty other options to get out of doing the recital, but opted to use none of them and instead killed Mari, whether he meant to or not.

Hell with how willing Basil was to cover up a fucking murder, Sunny could've had Basil help destroy the Violin and cover up what happened to it. Sunny sucks.
