Omori has always had an issue with pacing, and the biggest offender is Sweetheart since everything around her and her castle was meant to be optional content, but was retroactively made a mandatory part of the story because they liked her boss fight so much. Many people I've talked to have flat out refused to play the Hikkiomori route simply because the pacing is so fucking bad and there's next to nothing different until Black Space other than the lack of Faraway sections. It's a fantastic game, but Omocat should've gotten her shit together, because this sucks ass.
Now that we got that out of the way, am I alone in thinking Sunny and Basil don't deserve forgiveness? Like I played the entire game and when I was finished with the true ending I was left thinking

Hell even Mari was kind of a bitch, not giving a fuck how Sunny felt in the days leading up to the recital.

I completely agree with you, Basil is hands down the most braindead character in the game, and his actions however well intentioned, are still unforgivable. I still think Sunny deserves some flack though since he had plenty other options to get out of doing the recital, but opted to use none of them and instead killed Mari, whether he meant to or not.

The twist in Omori falls apart immediately when you actually think about it. An autopsy would show what actually happened to her, let alone that just at a glance she'd be covered in bruising and lacerations that aren't consistent with suicide via hanging

I can’t say I don’t sympathize with how awful it would have felt, but the mainstream fandom mostly gushes over Sunny because he was t-t-t-traumatized while ignoring that even if shoving Mari downstairs was an accident, he still A: assaulted her, B: neglected to ensure she had medical attention afterwards, and C: participated in covering up her murder (requiring more effort than should’ve been possible had he actually been catatonic). I think that’s all more serious than manslaughter, that repressing your memories is not absolution, and that the actual text of the game is pretty consistent with this. And I think there’s a reason we don’t see the others in the hospital room even if you get the extra scene with Basil. No way they’d forgive him on the spot.

Only wish the Afraid status was expanded more upon outside of scripted encounters and post-game Headspace on the Hikkiomori route, but the Scary Criticals mod fixes that. A visual novel might have told the story well enough, but exploring Headspace and Faraway the way you do just wouldn't work the same without the let's say Whimsical to avoid calling it "quirky" world design that Earthbound popularized, and the "four niggas in a row" thing that it also popularized, but probably came from Dragon Quest.
The other party members aren't just weapons or classes, they're your friends, and that's an incredibly important part of the story.
