If anything it'd improve both their characters. Dante being static since 2005 because Itsuno is apparently afraid of developing "Kamiya's character" has massively damaged the... well, character. DMC1 Dante is fine. DMC3 Dante is fine as a younger version that tries to cope with his life by putting on the "hotshot woohoo pizza man" persona is fine. The way DMCs 4 and 5 decide to keep him as the asexual pizza hobo uncle does nothing but make the narrative worse, and Lady is in turn left by the wayside sorta just... hanging out with this dude she met 25 years earlier but definitely never ever crushed on or banged him? Japanese oddness indeed.
