like I said the game is incredibly vague, but a common interpretation of where you get the traffic light effect is representative of someone close to mado being killed in front of her by in a car accident. Social isolation is also a major theme, so my interpretation is Mado was already largely an outcast and the car accident killing a friend/family member was what drove her to completely withdraw from society. It's been a few years since I've played the game so this is far from a definitive reading.
