>Game: FF6
>Most OP character: Gau
Gau has a skill called Rage, which enables him to mimic the skills and attributes of monsters he encounters. He has two Rages that completely break the game.
The first is Stray Cat, which lets him use an attack called Catscratch, which quadruples damage, which is already great. One drawback is he cannot equip weapons... usually. However, through the use of a relic called the Merit Award, he now can. Now, there's a weapon called the Tempest, which has a 50% chance of casting Wind Slash, a mid-level spell that attacks all enemies. If you give Gau this weapon and have him use Catscratch, the random Wind Slash spells will also quadruple in damage, turning it into one of the strongest attacks in the game. Best of all, if you also give him an Offering relic, which lets him attack four times in a single turn, he can potentially use Wind Slash up to four times in a turn, which kills pretty much everything. This setup is known as Wind God Gau, and it was deemed so OP that every port after the original SNES game prevented Gau from equipping the Merit Award.
The other Rage, Nightshade, lets him use an attack called Charm. This attack is like Muddle/Confuse in that it makes an enemy hit itself and other enemies instead of your party, but unlike Confuse, it's completely unblockable and there's no way to get rid of the status, so once it's cast, the enemy it's used on is completely helpless until it's dead. Charm works even on bosses, including the final boss, so it's essentially an insta-win attack.
Aside from all this, Gau is one of only two characters who can obtain perfect physical defense, so physical attacks do nothing to him. His only real drawback is once you use a Rage, you cannot control him, and he has a 50% chance of using a regular physical attacks instead of the special skill you normally want him to use. Even so, I think these two Rage skills make him the most overpowered character in the game.
