There may not be a literal monopoly in any one industry, but each industry is essentially an oligopoly via a few megacorporations that have lobbied the government enough to create an incestuous relationship with it in which both Big Business and Big Government feed off of each other in a positive feedback loop of asset transfers and monetary controls. A good example is entertainment/telecommunications in which SIX corporations control over 90% of the market in media entertainment in the United States. This is the same in the energy industry, airline industry and the information technology industry in which a few control most and can get away with forming what is essentially a legalized cartel in which they all profit and kick out competition in perpetuity, even getting bailed out by the taxpayers via the government if necessary. One or two players may occasionally rotate but the game remains the same as it always has been
