I don't particularly like IN as a game, or rather its not in my top Touhou games
I can recognize its qualities but I find the game's spells to be a little boring, with obviously some exceptions, but there's a lot of micro, of puzzles, of slow setups.
As a proud retard IN rarely gives me that feeling of getting the gist of a spell, and at the same time not getting it. That sort of improv & unpredictability that makes for the most satisfying victories. I may not be able to do it next time, and that's beautiful. I cheated my way into a C-.
This is further exacerbated by the spell card system & IN's looong setup before any bullets reach you. In IN's spells that do enable improv, the pace lowers the tension.
The spell card system has plenty of upsides, but there's something lost in translation compared to the beauty of Yumeko (one of the best fights in the series) barely giving you room to breathe before she shifts from one pattern to another.
