Don't think legions much venerated old suits and tried to keep them operations no matter how busted they got, rather than just get a new one off the assembly line. And while early, mid and late production suits are a thing in the fluff, don't think they started making MkII rings out of MkIV materials towards the end or drastically change the design. We got stuff like M2s made for almost a century and they're still riveted boxes despite all the advancements in manufacturing and materials.
