Looks like we can't talk about writing and characterization in videogames on /v/. Though I assume the rest of the thread was probably rife with culture war shit as a matter of course so whatever.

That's true for some characters, like the shuttle pilot from Mass Effect 3 for example. Aside from him being highly emotional and perhaps a tiny bit effeminate, you could just as easily have made him depressed about losing his wife rather than his husband. I can understand finding that annoying still, but as a one-off thing for a single side character I have a hard time giving a shit.

For other characters though, like Arcade Gannon from Fallout New Vegas, I think his being gay makes sense as a part of his character. It may be just a minor sidenote, but if you made Arcade straight I do think it would detract from the overall vibe they were going for with him, like it or not. But he's also a more major character than the Cortez example earlier, so that might have something to do with it. But you seem pretty high strung about this judging from your pissy response so maybe you'd just be pissed off no matter what.
