No. Earthbound is the tail ends of a story glued together by inconsequential NPCs that are, admittedly, charming.
It's riddled with flaws and set-pieces/ideas that aren't explored enough to be satisfying. Every time Toby steals something from the Mother series, he does it better. The same is true for most indie games that rob from it, but sadly they aren't afforded the "it was good for the time" excuse Mother is.
