If the price of so many manufacturers entering wec is that the cars are the slowest prototype racing cars in modern history and the details of design are less important than playing political games and abusing badly thought out systems then what is the point?
If expense is the issue then it can be overcome by just sticking ~2000hp engines on the cars, when you've that much power drag doesn't matter as much, so you can make really draggy high downforce cars. Give the manufacturers freedom in engine design and it would be relatively cheap to makes these engines.
Group C was a fuel efficiency formula and was still great, so make engines with practically unlimited horsepower but limited fuel.

So much of top class modern motorsport is pegging the cars back, this is done in literally hundreds of places, i refuse to believe that these excellent very competent engineers can't find a single way of making the cars go quick cheaply. Standing still in terms of lap time until the safety improves is one thing, but actually going backwards compared to the previous generation (which themselves were subject to so many restrictions) is just pathetic.

If there's not going to be even the slightest pretense of having a contest of engineering between the manufacturers, then just say fuck it and make everything a spec series - at least then the racing is sure to be good.
