that's one of the best spells in the game as far as I can tell, even discounting the -fire resist debuff
I was doing insane damage with it deleting levels, given I had item synergy to go with it, pic related, turn 4 clear of realm 18 with the curse doing the heavy lifting
it also has a generously huge aoe and plenty of charges
now that I think about it, it also has funny synergy with carnival of pain

>fire damage repeats as lightning then the lightning as dark
maybe throw in a chain lightning with the fireball upgrade for extra fun

I think you can do fine with the resist lowering stuff and focusing on a single element, though at that point you're doing one of the archmage trials basically
there's plenty of synergy investment to do without going for chaos spells
like going for fire+holy or dark+holy or ice+lightning etc.
