Islam has since the 1940s positioned itself as anti-western, decolonial, and counter-cultural. It makes sense that people that feel as if "western hegemony" has been no friend to them might make common cause. I think this has been proven to be foolish many times in recent history. Religions do not compromise with leftists, feminists and other people like that, they run you over.
Trans people are a special case as their priorities are not strictly political but based in physiological needs. You see them more willing to accept conservative positions because as long as society gives them their meds and allows transition they will put their heads down and take it. They don't need to live in a liberal society, they don't need equity between men and women, they don't want to disrupt family values or be visible, they just want to change their sex and be left alone.
