Yeah, I live in the area and just don't understand the depressed Eeyore angle they take to the program. Maybe they think they can be "lovable losers" or something like that. Ypsilanti has its issues but A2 is starting to spill over into it. It's not Youngstown. As you mentioned, it's inexpensive access to FBS, even if bottom tier. UM isn't handing out free tickets with Coca-Cola anymore. Most families can afford an outing to watch an Eastern game.
Get positive. Get fun. Stop acting like a goth kid looking for sympathy for anyone who will pay attention. No need to compete with the Wolverines. No need to play the "you can't insult us if we insult ourselves" game. The western suburbs have plenty of people that aren't associated with the University of Michigan, not even as Walmart Wolverines. They need to try tapping into that market and stop trying to be a mini Cleveland. At the very least, ditch the dingy grey field next time the turf is replaced. As a marketing gimmick, it's as effective as telling everyone they have herpes. And it might have cost them the opportunity to make revenue from hosting the UFL's Panthers.
