It sounds like the big thing is that the idea of re-inventing Adobe Flash + Windows Movie Maker was more involved and expensive than he realized it would be.
Then just releasing the blog/art/music content for you to browse through without any gameplay felt like a copout to him that he'd rather just wash his hands of. Personally I think I would try to pivot to releasing the content they have as a DLC/official mod pack for Hypnospace.
