I think you gotta accept that it's a probabilistic game. There's stuff you can do to minimize the chance of getting damage, e.g. pressing down to roll in a slope or going slow if a new area seems dangerous but accept if you get hit, it's just the challenge.

Not only is this acceptable, S1 in particular is Mario with physics puzzles. There is not many other ways to interpret pic related. It's a place where you platform but you're careful about the puzzle, I guess if it's a replay and you know the puzzle you can try to do it stylish or fast.
