Back then total war was not a real thing and Japanese lost much more soldiers and equipments than russian defenders.
Russian navy was peak garbage sure but POOLish Marxists niggers started a revolution in Europe and Nicky believed that accepting the american brokered peacedeal would be the best option to make the empire stable again which was obv wrong.
Japan knew and hoped that this would be just a fast Blitzkrieg because if Russia really moved their army to East Asia then the Japanese would be kicked out of all Asia.
