I can't remember the books, but I stumbled upon a few books about the history of medicine, and they seemed to claim that the history of vaccines were introduced to the British Aristocracy(who then went on to promote it to the commoners) by some brilliant minds from France, Spain, and I want to say Turkey...
Im admittedly not very familiar of the religious world and their geographic followings, but do those places have any Catholic sects?
