Even if this were true, they'd still be nonsensical and morally wrong. But the reality is that people invent things all the time without patents. Almost any "guy in a garage" sort of invention was made with no intention of patenting it. That includes many of the most important inventions in history.

In fact, China claims the opposite. They love to show off their high number of patents as proof of their innovation. But since we both know China isn't very innovative, all they've really proven is that patents don't incentivize innovation.
