Mars is a hellscape. The dust there is like razors and very toxic. In a distant future with tons of revolutionary tech then maybe. Might need some serious terraforming too. He's 100% just stroking sci-fi dicks to sell his X-everything is the future to finance bro's (and it's been working pretty good).

Also the moon is a much more closer and real target but he needs that iconic Earth-2 just a figurative two weeks away in the distance and then we'll all be living like in the Expanse driving space Tesla's that don't stop for kid asteroids.
