It's all ultra-rendered, obviously-digital art now. The idea of digitally emulating markers or watercolors (nevermind using the real things) for illustration is kind of dead. Paradoxically it's way easier and thus way faster to lean on Clip Studio or Photoshop to heavily render a piece in faux-3D than it is to finagle a good watercolor brush out of them.

There's still JP artists who work in more natural-looking styles though, so it's not all grim. Pic rel was like a 2024 card.
