It's not having children that depresses women the most. They get extreme baby fever around ~30 y/o which is when their body physiology and psychology goes into overdrive trying to manipulate them into having children. If they end up as childless spinsters, they feel like biological and genetic failures. Insofar as women are concerned with passing on their genes, they care about having a husband (provider male) to ensure those genes are raised up to be as successful as possible and so in it is in this respect that women are disappointed when they don't have children (1st order desire) AND a husband (2nd order desire).
