...I'd personally recommend a VFC AR; their Olympic Arms (picrel) build runs $300USD before shipping from Asian retailers and comes with two mags, getting you into a system that's very competently designed with some of the best GBB AR mags on the market (which are also relatively cheap, too) and doesn't require too much out of the box (bucking and barrel swap at most OOTB, if you want maybe get a steel fire control group with the gun or later down the line because while the stock parts aren't necessarily bad to my knowledge, they aren't as good as proper steel) while being CQB legal due to the short barrel, bypassing any need for an NPAS - for not a whole lot more you can get some retro carbines, though they've only got one mag out of the box and may benefit from an NPAS for power adjustment purposes
Explosive Enterprises has a good video on them, would recommend watching it; if you're more interested in the MWS system on a budget he also made a video on the Double Eagle N4 recently that's quite helpful, so check that one out too and see which one appeals to you more

the VMP-1 is basically a clone of the KWA MP9, which has a mixed reputation due to certain elements of the design shitting themselves a little too quickly for comfort; I'd imagine the VMP-2 is better by virtue of having its own fire control and blowback design on the inside while using the same mags, but I don't have enough experience or knowledge about the things to really say anything; I like the Charger-esque model they've got though, would be cool to see something like that but with TM-spec Glock mags
