Was genuinely waiting for the twist reveal that he was prolonging his life through some kind of demon pact. But considering he pulled a "pocket sand" maneuver and Vivzie wasn't confident enough in the reference to let it run without spelling it out for people, I'm just going to chalk it up to shitty writing (par for the course at this point).
