>Bazzite is decent but an immutable atomic OS is a tough pill to swallow for some people.
If you are brand new to linux what is wrong with immutable?
People need the guard rails to not "delete system 32 to make your system faster" in the begining.
Once you get the hang of how things work you can distro-hop and run only Khali or Arch with the tools you need or code the WINE compatibility yourself.
One step at a time man. Switching from the only OS most people have ever known is a big leap.
A lot of people just wanna play games and surf the next with the occasional software.

Personally I think Steam needs to do the following.
>Create a non-profit for their OS which will forever remain free and open source
>Open up funding/donation streams
>Expand Proton to fully translate EVERY windows program
>Allow other Distros to be affiliates and recieve funding for updates that the Steam OS NonProfit requests, similar to a bounty program for bugs.
A system like this allows steam to beat monopoly accusations, never end up under Microsofts thumb again, and make Linux a profitable dev community that isn't swayed by money for every decision.
On top of this European countries are switching to Linux for gov systems and you could easily lobby the EU for voluntary funding
