Yup, 99% of the time there's a flatpak or appimage out there that does what you want and more without even needing a system package install.
Flatpak is a little autistic about permissions but those issues are easily solved and for me evokes the feeling of older Windows versions when PCs and gaming required some computer literacy.
I was surprised that games are packaged there too, I installed Beyond All Reason and SRB2 Kart to play with friends when I fully expected having to run them through Proton.

Why does microsoft need windows to upgrade? IIRC, windows 10 would be the final windows because they will incrementally upgrade its features overtime. To do away with the version numbers. I guess plans change.

That's what I'm going to do. I'll use W10 until W12 is released. If it's the same as W11, I'll switch to Linux. SteamOS will probably be available by then, and it won't have many bugs.
