It calls itself a remaster but in many ways it feels more like a remake. The tonal shift is not just "le worse graphics xD" (which imo are good except for demon models, which are all over the place), in general the feeling of the story and world is closer to Raidou 2's so it feels weirder, sillier and more upbeat. They changed SMT1 references in the Arakana Corridor to a message about "masks and uncertain future" which to me feels like a shoved in SMTV reference due to the west not really getting SMT1 + Yamai loves his multiverse shit. Honestly I think I can safely say that in the Remaster, there are multiple implications that this version of Raidou 1's events is a separate version from the original game's and that Remastered leads to the future where SMTV will happen.

It could have easily been the best version of the game had they sticked closer to the original (just with more demons, some new subquests and the revamped battle system), but as it stands it feels more like remake that recontextualizes the game and makes it closer to the rest of the Raidou media series.
I like it and I'd rather play it over the original; however, after finally letting it sit for a bit I can confirm the very first thought I had about it, which is that if you *really* want to play all of Raidou *you have* to start with Raidou 1. Raidou Remastered is its own thing.
