Most people have no idea what atheist even means, but ultimately their point is about rejecting religious images of god.
Because a human image who is basically fucking insane and willing to throw you into a lake of fire for masturbating and not giving 10% of your income to the church, is an extremely over simplistic and fucking retarded way of thinking of a god.
If there is a god it's some larger abstract consciousness that guides things like evolution and arranges atoms so things function.
It's not some human image that speaks to you in words, or comes down in flesh like our organized religions imply.

Considering the evidence for reincarnation, it's very likely we have a soul that comes back here, so some form of self does exist.
There's also a lot of really weird shit out there observed by a ton of people every year.
You can absolutely deny the existence of any god depicted by mainstream religions and still believe in the supernatural

Religions are control systems headed by humans and therefore will behave like any group led by people.
They ultimately serve their own best interests and they are about money and control. Therefore you damn well should understand that they have been corrupted to oblivion right off the get go.
