have two 6 month old kittens. They've never intentionally peed or pooped outside of the litter box that I know of. BUT one of them is SO messy with the litter. I scoop it twice daily and I have two boxes, so it is not a matter of cleanliness. She will do this even if I just replaced the litter or it's sone random time. She gets in there and is all chaotic - it's like she's playing - and she will kick litter everywhere. This weekend it looked like she kicked a piece of fresh poop out of the box and then stepped on it, smearing it on the floor. The poop had litter on it so I know it started in the box. Just now I scooped their boxes and she went in there to potty, and then I found a piece of fresh poo, no litter on it, a few feet from the box on the floor. It was a small piece and she was just in the box, so I think/hope it was unintentional - maybe she jumped out too early and it was stuck to her butt? She doesn't have really hard pellett poos or diarrhea so I dont suspect she's sick.
I don't know, but years ago I had a cat that would poop and pee in our bed when she got mad at us and I went a long time without pets for that reason, so I'm paranoid that this is the start of a very stinky habit. They were strays and I don't know when they were separated from mama, so what are the chances she will learn to be less chaotic and cleaner with the litter as she grows? I know litter mess goes with the territory but the popp situation just ain't it.
