The horse owners think otherwise. They really do love their horses and want the best for them. The fact that they couldn't find any horse owners willing to let their horse be the bad guy in season one, leading to them making up a fake horse name for the villain role, is proof that the owners cared. These horses are not mass produced, they are pampered and cared for. They are fragile, but to act like horse owners treat them badly is just wrong. Many of the named horses have actual gravestones.
