I actually liked the release version. People were just upset because it was promised to have multiplayer when it didn't, but then they fucked it up by adding generic multiplayer instead of the "semi-isolated" multiplayer that was promised, where you could run into people out in the universe but not just join a lobby like it's an mmo.
