I don't disagree. I think what you're describing is a type of cold covert communism that relies on individualism and neurotic narcissism to function. It's not the stated ideology of communism that is communisms intended purpose. The purpose of communism is to destroy the moral society for the purposes of removing all mobility from the population and maintaining control for an elite class. This revolves around simple minded impulsive "indulgences". Removing all freedom from any collectivist system and giving everyone their own individualistic prison that is morally bankrupt and devoid of any classical virtue. In a communist system like this "virtue" is replaced with individual power and the ability to be used by the system that revolves around an elite protected class.
For the majority their lives revolve around social credit that is handed out from the top down by a government completely controlled by a small collective of elite.
Similar to the old regime or the antebellum south.
