The average wage for a city employee is $26/hr.
The average salary total is ~$31/hr, and obviously people with more experience will want a higher salary than entry level.
People have a weird view of NYC jobs as being high paying just because the city is expensive, but it really isn't. Most people just have lower standards of living.
I applied for a job there once because I wanted to be closer to family, I would have actually had to take a pay CUT from living in New Mexico to live in NYC.
NYC has high paying jobs, but most of the jobs are not high paying wall street jobs. Most people there still work 9-5 office jobs or whatever.
This guy would unironically bankrupt the city with a $30 minimum wage.
