Depends on the model. Like some pointed out, there is the 0079 version that just has a small sliding door like in >>23336167 and >>23336192 so you could put armor in front and it wouldn't be a big deal. Later designs like 08th MS Team and Origin introduced hinged doors that swing open so you can't have anything permanently in front unless it also moves out of the way.
