/gpg/ - Gunpla/Plamo General
-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?

-=ARTILLERY GROUPBUILD=-

Build a mecha or vehicle that uses long-range heavy-weapons such as Cannons, Missiles/Rockets, Railguns, or any other type of siege weaponry. Some clarifying rules
>The weapon can either be placed anywhere on the build (Shoulder-mounted, under-slung, etc), or in a separate side-build (Such as an artillery system utilized by a larger mech).
>Side-builds can include things like howitzers, self-propelled artillery, missile platforms, and the like.
>Alternatively, the mech can act as a spotter, loader, or some other role to support Artillery fire.
>Despite technically being a long-range weapon, Sniper Rifles are a no-go.

Send your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com with at least 5 photos of your finished build along with any WIP photos and a description of your entry.

Its definitely a kit that *needs* to be panel lined, theres a ton of detail that you just can't see through the bright red plastic.
The colour is still pretty close to the paintjob Char gives it in the show, but I would've liked it to be a bit more classic red.

You don't NEED most of that shit.
I put decals on top of lacquer paints (which are already glossy by themselves), dab some Tamiya mark fit (strong) and cover with a matte coat afterwards. Comes out fine.
The outline is also dependent on how thick the paper itself is. Bandai's official decals can be pretty thick.

Don’t do this. These brushes suck. Use the tip of a needle instead. Acrylics usually won’t dry while you move it to the model. Always go thick for these details else it will flow and ruin everything.

Just wash them with solvents. Don’t bother with nice brushes, keep those for the acrylics. Buy 100 shit brushes from china and use them as long as you feel like, by they will get ruined pretty quickly.

Black is for pre-shading and white is if you are using paints with poor coverage. If you plan to use lacquers, grey is good, as the others pointed out. I just recommend not picking white because there’s a good chance you will prime white in white and that is a terrible experience.

>Can backflushing damage inner parts of the airbrush ?
not normally. in fact my airbrush's manual (creos procon ps-269) specifically recommends backflushing as part of standard cleaning. however if your needle packing seal is already loose/busted (which it sounds like it is from your earlier posts) then it might contribute to spraying paint back into the parts of the brush it's not supposed to go.

maybe it could cause problems on those $20 fengda brushes because who knows what kind of mysteries they're haunted by

Adding onto this, the square in the lower left that has three simplified cockpit diagrams indicated that the top two have no airlock and could have a large chest hatch or a smaller cockpit door. The bottom example with the red shaded part would physically resemble the upper left but include an airlock mechanism in the red shaded part. Zaku Half Cannon resembles the cockpit design with the smaller door.

After a few months, I've finally put my first painted kit together. Still needs weapons, panel lining, and decals though. Learned that you should never paint any pieces that twist or turn in any manner. Ended up breaking the right leg's peg that connects to the torso because of that. Luckily sanding down the rest of the similar pieces with I think 180 grit fixed that issue. Also make sure you keep track of the smaller pieces. Ended up losing the two little pink chest panels somewhere along the line. Also tried my hand at scribing, ended up buying some scribing tape because I obviously can't do straight lines to save my own ass. Definitely going to have to screw around with mixing paints whenever/if gaianotes or mr color ever gets back in stock. The lack of paint to mix is why the coloring is fucking goofy, but its endearing. It's a goofy little fuck, but it's my goofy little fuck.

This is why I debated whether or not to paint the inner frame. It's not really visible aside from around the knees and elbows.
>broke the shoulder/arm pegs on the mgex strike freedom because I didn't sand or use masking tape
I was lucky that I had another RG Zaku II kit that my brother gave me on my birthday so having lost those two small pink panels and breaking the leg's peg didn't screw me over too bad. If it ever happens again for whatever reason, I plan on watching a few of those videos showing how to repair broken pegs using metal rods.

At least this time the pipes won't be a fucking nightmare trying to get them painted since it's just one long piece rather than separate pieces. If I remember correctly, you don't paint clear plastic like the RG Zaku II's visor piece, but what about that clear yellow chest piece on the Custom Gouf? its just a question of workflow. once someone gets a good setup going painting is easy. most people just dont have enough patience to find what works for them. What i do is set up a paper plate on my kitchen counter and after i have the set assembled i use blow pens to paint it. i have full control over the air PSI since im using my own body. i easily rotate the paper plate for full coverage. many people think they require an airbrush but it isnt the case. this also has the advantage of being silent. so you wont bother people in your house or neighbors if you are in an apartment complex. are you familiar with blow pens?
