My take on the backstabbing narrative remains unchanged.
It is good to have allies, but allies are no replacement for the capability to defend yourself. Putting aside the fickle nature of alliances, public opinion and democratic rule, national allies are like the police - minutes away when every second counts. Every country should spend on defense, allies or no.
