Gauging what? We're talking about whether in full gas setting the Bootleg adjustable carrier is operating with the same gas flow/pressure as a milspec aren't we? Or have we already starting talking about different things?

My understanding of the mechanical behavior is that the "race" against light primer strikes and hammer follow begins after the bolt, carrier, and buffer have completely the rearward motion portion of the cycle. At that point it is just a matter of total cycling mass and spring strength that determine how fast relative to the falling hammer the BCG is moving, and thus the outcome of the race against hammer follow light primer strike. How fast the BCG and buffer moved rearward doesn't play a role in this "race".
I could be wrong. I would definitely be wrong if it was a purely elastic energy and momentum conserving process, like the "constant recoil" system in the KAC LMG or what some try to obtain with A5 buffer systems.
