1 thing about the "Guys, Bro was totally a sociopathic abuser that literally tortured Dave everyday" thing that is all but a retcon is that if Huss did want HS to have that sort of parental angst that leads to drama and emotional payoff when the big meeting happens, Rose was literally right there. I'm not gonna act like Dave wasnt written to have conflict with Bro but Rose was the one most overtly written to be at odds with Mom to where it wouldve been believable and not so fucking jarring for her to have a moment late in the story where she unloads her troubles regarding Mom and the trauma she's carried from being raised in that house, + the emotional mindfuck it was when she died. It couldve been a way for Rose to be able to process Mom's passing and the insane mental cage she'd put herself in, and a way for Roxy have to moment to confront her own flaws, had Hussie bothered giving her any.
BUT THE OPPOSITE HAPPENS! They meet and its literally the happiest reunion ever, they immediately act like the closest girlfriends ever, there are no hard feelings or any sort of internal conflicts. The whole arc Rose had and the myriad of issues she had regarding Mom are swept under the rug as she conveniently realized that all her angst towards Mom was because SHE JUST DIDNT REALIZE SHE REALLY DID LOVE MOM AND MOM LOVED HER TOO! Glad that got settled. Really mature of Rose to realize that huge personal arc she had was actually founded on a little misunderstanding easily cleared up.
My crackpot theory is that the Dave/Dirk conversation was never meant for Dave and Dirk. Hussie made those two have it because he wanted that conversation to happen regardless of whether the ones having it made sense, so he just decided to have Dave say a bunch of random insane shit about Bro being abusive. It was meant to be Rose talking to Roxy, but Hussie chicken out because he didn't want the last dialogue of the comic a female character being blamed for another's trauma.
