Every night the main power will be shut off which will turn off the power to outlets and lights. This is just temporary and they will turn back on in the morning (so a few minutes). You can keep powering things overnight by crafting a battery (early game is Makeshift) and plugging that into the outlet, then plugging whatever it is you want powered into the battery. This will keep it powered as normal during the day, but at night you can get some use out of the object connected to the battery until it runs out.
