Yeah lacking social skills makes things hard. I used to be severely introverted and nervous around crowds. Public speaking terrified to the point my leg would start shaking and I'd stammer.

Now I have to give speeches to 100 or more people annually. I give zero fucks, I just rehearse and say what I need to say. I got over my fear by realizing I don't give a shit about them, I don't care what they think, and they're just as retarded and weird as I am - they've just learned to hide it.

The bubbly outgoing girl who laughs all the time? Insecure and cries herself to sleep. The boisterous dudebro who talks about his weekends and party life? Insecure and trying to make people think he isn't a closeted homo. The bossman who shows up with a stern look and makes overly critical comments about inane things like the focus of the digital overhead projector? A pitiful loser who is afraid his wife will leave him and he screams in his car when he thinks no one is looking (I saw him do this in his $140k leased Mercedes in the back parking lot).
