I'm not sure about the satellite part, but I'd buy the player as a form of bio-engineered parasite that disguises itself as one of the usual Kenshi inhabitants. It then moves into more hosts through a verbal agreement, overwriting their personalities to respond accordingly to the parasite's intentions.
I base this theory mostly on the fact that, besides physically impaired characters who cannot speak (Ray and Agnu), all donuts talk the same after you've recruited them with no regard for their previous personalities, like Beep (who is retarded and doesn't know what money is) trading like he's used to it when you send him to a shop, or the proud shek warrior Kang kneeling to a noble if you wish not to offend them. The only time when the characters you control show some form of agency is during long travels when they start speaking amongst themselves, or some even after battle, at times when you're not directly controlling their words.
Also, the fact that viruses and parasites ultimately exist for self-preservation. Since the game has no real goal besides survival, any action you make counts as an attempt to keep your "hosts" and yourself alive, even the destruction of other factions that could be perceived as potential threats.
But that's just my headcanon, don't mind me
