Learn to pick your fights, don't hesitate to run away and don't reload unless you die, any fight you survive makes you stronger. Building an outpost will attract trader caravans and hostile raids. Building one too early might be more than you can handle. Pressing F1 will open the tutorial screen. Mousing over the stats screen and HUD will reveal useful tooltips and additional info. If the enemies feel too difficult - get crossbows for your units. And don't be afraid of the RP autism - engage in it whenever you can. And do unlock the sliders.

Cutter rested on his heels, watching his fellow shadows move into position. This was their big moment, the time where they'd either show their training paid off—or perish. He was a bit disappointed, but not too surprised, when Ruby insisted on accompanying him out of town. What had shocked him was the Shek. As he and Ruby left Admag, the emaciated warrior trotted up beside them wordlessly. "Can I help you?" he asked, the Shek having avoided eye-contact. "Hhmph," she grunted. "You've brought in more rogue Shek than any other flatskin. If you're taking followers, I'll see how you fight." Cutter's grumbling complaints about not wanting company fell on deaf ears. By the time he left Squin to prey on the Dust Bandits again, he'd collected three Shek warriors and another thief to boot. What's more, the first time he left them to scout ahead on his own, when he'd returned they'd bought a bonedog from passing nomads. Named the pup Man-eater too; proper Shek sensibility there, as ridiculous as the massive sheets of steel they dragged around calling a weapon.

The glint of moonlight off of Ruby's blade snapped Cutter back to the present. They were ready. He stood, wincing as his knees popped. Looking up, he could just see the silhouette of the turreters against the stars. He readied his grappling hook, and watched Kisara strut into the lights before the main gate, showcasing her dauntless Shek pride. As she began hurling taunts, he tossed the hook up, feeling it catch. He couldn't help but grin like a giddy child as he began climbing; their plan was working perfectly. The idiot bandits kept shooting, and even hitting Kisara some. Of course, their crude crossbows were nowhere near enough to pierce her armor from that range. Heaving himself over the top of the wall, he crouched on the alure and drew his short blade. He could no longer see Ruby and Krusa, and had to hope they proved as competent as they believed themselves.

Rushing forward, his first victim had scarcely finished falling by the time his second found steel deep in his throat. He heard a gurgled cry on the other side of the gate, and stilled a momentary surge of panic. There was no turning back now, even as things got sloppy. The third and fourth watchmen turned towards the source of the sound, so he bellowed a battle cry of his own. The nearer brigand was gutted before he could bring his crossbow to bear, and the thunk of the fourth's bolt was wet with the blood of his companion, the tip stopped by Cutter's plated shirt. Shoving the dying man off him, Cutter cut down the final guard as he fumbled for his sword, and took a moment to gain his bearings.

Below him, the mass of banditry roused from their sleep was bottlenecked by the door to their tower, but half a dozen were already outside. Across the gate, Cutter watched Ruby shoulder a man off the wall, and she locked eyes with him as he heard a loud crack and scream from below. Together, they heaved the chains of the gate, and lifted it enough for Kirasa, Zara, and Ruka to slide beneath, well behind the bloodthirsty Man-eater. As soon as the last Shek was through the gate, Ruby and Cutter let it slam shut once more, and Cutter felt his heart drop as he noted Ruby was the only upright figure across from him. Yet, with an underlying pang of guilt, he was glad it was her instead of Krusa.

Running to the end of the wall and down the ramp as he drew his nodachi, by the time Cutter joined the ongoing melee his Shek companions were surrounded—nearly two score marauders circled the massive warriors. Although the defending bandits were outmatched, their numbers were great. Wasting no time, Cutter slashed at the hamstrings of the two nearest raiders, dropping both to their knees where they were quickly dispatched, one of them cursing him as he attempted to avoid the death blow.

The next few minutes Cutter heard only the song of battle, the clashing of steel on steel singing its beauty to him, and the wet sounds of flesh and blood a soothing contrast to the strong sounds of metal. Enraptured by the dance, he found himself staring down the Dust King, sword drawn. In his periphery he could see only fallen soldiers, and the music stilled. For a moment there was only his breath, sucking in the sticky air and not quite filling his lungs. The King raised his oversized saber in one extended arm, shaking it so the rings rattled. "And now, you die, puny upstart. It's a shame you've no horns to cut off; I'd love to send some to your foster family. Your scalp will have to do." The King's voice was steady, if he feared death he hid it well. But Cutter hadn't even heard his full threat; the music swelled to drown out all else once more.

Letting the King make the first move, Cutter stood statuesque. Grunting, the bandits' leader drew his saber back, readied himself, then attacked. A low, sweeping strike—but a feint. The hilt was too high, and the sword would be drawn upwards rather than towards the leg. Strafing to his left, Cutter leaned backwards to avoid the blow, then flicked his own blade downward. He felt it catch, and quickly drew backwards, cutting—but the sparks betrayed that he'd hit only armor. Suddenly stars appeared as he stumbled even more to the side; and he noted his foe returning his gauntlet to his sword. Shaking his head, Cutter righted himself. Although the Dust King had learned to compensate for the sluggishness of his oversized blade, he was still much slower. Cutter brought his own sword overhead, committing to a downward strike. It was parried, as he'd anticipated—his follow-up was to quickly drag the tip back before thrusting it the man's heart. As the point pierced the rags, Cutter felt it deflected by a heart protector, but found purchase in the flesh below.

Howling with rage, the Dust King replied by further utilizing his bulk. Pivoting off Cutter's blade, he spun inside of their range, bringing his elbow down on the smaller assassin's skull. Dazed for less than a second, Cutter found his nodachi missing as he lay prone below the bleeding bandit. He minimized his motion, pretending to still be shocked as he slipped his katana free once more. As the King raised his saber to finish him off, Cutter rapidly rolled toward him, thrusting his katana up past the previous wound and into the heart from below. With a shuddering gasp, the King collapsed upon him.

At dawn, they left the compound. The foul stench of burning bodies behind them, Cutter was relieved. The Shek were still boasting to one another about their victory, conveniently ignoring that they'd all fallen during the battle. Instead, they spoke of how many foes they felled or whose scars would look better. That none had lost a limb seemed miraculous, and even Man-eater was limping along happily, his belly full. Cutter knew it was all too close though; they needed more training, and more allies. After his final duel, he'd been terrified as he searched through the wounded, hoping none of his friends had died. Although they'd first come as unwanted hangers-on, he now felt kinship and the need to protect them. There was safety in numbers, as much as he had tried to deny it in the past, and he'd benefited from them as well. It was time to ensure his plans wouldn't put them at such great risk again.

When he dumped the body of the Dust King at the Stone Golem's feet, he was elated to hear her address him directly. "Battle Born. You have proven yourself worthy, one of us if you so choose. What would you ask of me?" Tasting the title she'd bestowed on him for a moment, Cutter considered. It seemed to grow as he repeated it in his mind, and he felt his chest swell. After savoring the moment, he confidently replied: "Mighty Stone Golem—I will make my mark upon this world. To the east, in the lands called Shem, I will claim land to call my own. Aid me, and that land will be part of your Kingdom." "Then so it shall be, Battle Born."

I have scrambled the Dust Bandits down to one smaller faction since they split into 3 separate ones after killing the Dust Boss, then went after the Red Sabres and Reavers. Eventually will begin my crusade against the Holy Nation since they are my most rivaled faction and is the only one left raiding me.

It's not a bug, just a shitty implementation. Songs are tied to a specific region, and only play on a timer. So if you are in a region without a song when the timer hits nothing plays. Or if you cross through a region right after a song triggered you may just not have the timer hit while you're in it.

Armour King, a helpful human sympathizer, has a shop setup in a former Second Empire town, which is now quite close to what is the heart of the Holy Nation. To the north we can find another familiar questionable character (don't worry, Burn's chill) - the unscrupulous Iyo. Being blunt here - the theory isn't too complex:

Looks fine. The "less foliage" mod is okay, but there is an alternative version that reduces the poli-count instead, it helps with the frame rate too. It's called "Foliage and Stone Total Rework (FASTR)". It has one flaw though - it randomizes some trees and rocks, making some modded (by other mods) buildings blocked by trees. Aside from that - I don't recommend the "Beautiful bodies and faces" on the single notion that it locks the bodies' numbers. The bodies can be edited instead via the "Editor" folder - it takes about 30 minutes to explain to the game what characters the game must generate for (You).

Speaking of the Arachnids, something curious happened yesterday.
I built a small prison and put prisoners in there to use as training partners for Beep. At some point, it became a difficulty levels thing, with a Dust Bandit as easy (I gave him a Mk 1 Horse Chopper for extra flavour), a Dust Boss as medium, and an Arachne Warrior as hard (took all of his items and replaced them with a Hungry Bandits Leader's equipment to even the odds).
The first two were around the 20s and 30s, combat-wise. Beep had some difficulty, but eventually reached levels between 30-40 and started beating them relatively easily. With the Arachne Warrior, standing at 50-60... it was humiliating. Beep fell without making a single scratch, twice.
Now, the third time he actually stood a chance and here's when things got weird. While the Dust Bandits mostly went for Beep's vitals to knock him out quickly, this guy could land around 15 consecutive cuts on Beep, but he attacked each body part equally. By the end, the only thing not in the negatives was his right arm.
Now, I know it's impossible to code the IA to fight a certain way, but it'd be funny to think that the Arachnids are naturally sadistic combatants as opposed to any other humanoid enemy in Kenshi.

Samurai Armor is OP, Crab at least totally tanks your offenses. You're not exactly trading that much protection.

There are no enemies left for the shek guards to beat. There is no manual labor left for the human men to perform. Both groups can sit and do nothing for a while. The human men have nothing to worry about - there are 18 of them, and only 9 shek women. There is a safety in numbers, even though there are bottles of sake in that building, and many empty beds.

The Viera rabbit women of the Rava subtype that settled between Shem and the Burning Forest call themselves "Bog Bunnies". These Rava's fortified village stands on a road from the UC to the Swamp, acting like a pit stop of sorts. They normally don't attack anyone, but sometimes, when the wandering bandits start causing problems inside the village-fortress of "Wet Hole", the Bog Bunnies get overly agressive, and may attack travelers inside their village, and even the guards of the Tech Hunters' shop. How do those men survive on the daily basis is unknown, but their business must be booming so much that they are willing to accept the risks of possible and sudden brutal rabbit-on-man violence.

Aside from that, these Ravas are (mostly) all bark and no bite. They do not wear any pants or skirts however. Maybe it's because they live far enough from the Holy Nation so they can relax and wear whatever they want, or maybe the area between Shem and the Burning Forest is so hot and humid that they don't care about decency anymore. For those who don't care how do these rabbit women look like underneath their trench coats - their walled settlement is a good place to get rid from the loot taken from many local bandits, and buy some food and supplies.

The rain never stops in the Burning Forest, but at least there is no stench of the Swamp, or the Swampers. Occasional swamp raptors and blood spiders provide some combat training, but when there is no fighting to do - simply sitting under an garden umbrella is nice as well. Makes one think, long and deeply.

After entering the fort, and spending less than three minutes inside - the fort was attacked by land-walking fish-headed monsters.
