I don't know, anon, TOS has a very distinctly military feel to it. Sure, they're exploring but the Enterprise itself and its operation is absolutely militant. The hierarchy of Starfleet is military. The uniforms, the jackboots, the way the ship operates.

And the TOS Enterprise is the definitive Enterprise that established all canon that followed.
