If you change comedy setting into more serious setting then Kazuma probably still would be more competent then Subaru in that sense, because Kazuma is character that cares more about gold and glory than Subaru, so he looks smarter pursuing that, then Subaru who pursues white doll-like hair half elf and oni maid.
If Re:Zero had actually competent in vast majority of fields MC, then it would look like current arc where Aldebaran outplays every powerful individual and that's not the point.
